UP Government: Farmers of Uttar Pradesh have got great relief. Yogi government has increased the prices of sugarcane. The government has fixed the new rate of sugarcane for the 2025-26 crushing season. The Yogi government on Wednesday announced an increase in sugarcane prices by Rs 30 per quintal for the 2025-26 crushing season. It was described as a big decision in the interest of farmers. The decision will benefit lakhs of farmers across the state. Sugarcane Development and Sugar Industry Minister Lakshmi Narayan Chaudhary said that with the latest amendment, the price of early variety of sugarcane has been fixed at Rs 400 per quintal and the price of normal variety has been fixed at Rs 390 per quintal. He said during a press conference here that this increase will result in additional payment of about Rs 3,000 crore to farmers. This is the fourth time during the tenure of this government that the price of sugarcane has been increased.

Farmers’ income will increase

Officials said that this decision is expected to increase the income of farmers and give a new impetus to the rural economy of the state. Chaudhary said that the government considers respecting the hard work of farmers as its top priority. Sugarcane growers are not only productive but also strong pillars of the state’s economy. He said that it is the government’s firm commitment to ensure timely and fair payment for their produce. According to the minister, during the current government, sugarcane farmers have so far received payment of Rs 2,90,225 crore. In comparison, a total of Rs 1,47,346 crore was paid between 2007 and 2017 during the previous Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party governments. He claimed that the present government has overpaid Rs 1,42,879 crore in just eight and a half years.

Sugarcane area increased in the state

Chaudhary said that Uttar Pradesh currently has 122 sugar mills, which places it second in the country in sugar production. He claimed that 21 mills were sold cheaply during previous governments, but the state’s transparent management and investor-friendly policies have attracted new investment of over Rs 12,000 crore in the sector. The minister said that in the last eight years, four new mills have been set up, six closed mills have been reopened and 42 mills have expanded their crushing capacity, which is equivalent to eight large mills. Apart from this, two sugar mills have also installed biogas plants. He said that the area under sugarcane in the state has also increased from 20 lakh hectares to 29.51 lakh hectares, making Uttar Pradesh the leading state in the country in sugarcane cultivation.
