Israel-Hamas: After two years of bloody war, Israel and Hamas have finally chosen peace. On Monday, Israel is preparing to welcome its last 20 surviving hostages from Gaza. At the same time, the way has been cleared for the release of hundreds of prisoners from the Palestinian side. With this ceasefire, hopes for a new beginning in both the countries have been rekindled.
relief in israel
The atmosphere has been tense in Tel Aviv since morning. People are gathering in Hostages Square waiting for the live telecast on the big screen. These are the same hostages who were kidnapped in the Hamas attack of October 2023. Since then, thousands of people across the country have been taking to the streets every week demanding his return. The release of these hostages is considered the end of an emotional chapter for Israel. On Monday, they will be handed over to the Israeli Army through the International Red Cross, where the families will be met at the Ra’im Military Base. However, there is still uncertainty regarding the return of the bodies of the remaining 28 hostages.

release of prisoners
Under this agreement, Israel will release about 2,000 Palestinians, including 250 life imprisonment prisoners. Some of these will be sent to the West Bank, some to Gaza and some to exile. While Israel considers them terrorists, in Palestine they are seen as freedom fighters. This is why Israel has warned that there should be no public celebration of their release in the West Bank, so that the peace process is not affected.
Trump’s visit
US President Donald Trump has also arrived on this historic occasion. He will first meet the families of the hostages in Israel and then go to Egypt. Here he will co-chair the Peace Summit with President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi. Many international leaders and Palestinian Authority chief Mahmoud Abbas will also participate in this conference. Recently, while leaving, Trump said that the war is over and I hope that the ceasefire will remain intact.
Spring in Gaza
According to the United Nations, Israel has so far approved sending about 1,90,000 tons of humanitarian aid to Gaza. Now the entry of 600 trucks has been fixed daily. UN Humanitarian Chief Tom Fletcher said that most of Gaza’s area is now in ruins. But a plan is ready to restore essential medical and food supplies there in the next two months.
New beginning after devastation
In October 2023, 1,200 Israelis were killed in a Hamas attack. More than 67,000 Palestinians have lost their lives in retaliation. Lakhs of people have become homeless in this war. Now that the return of hostages and ceasefire has been implemented, the eyes of the world are on whether this step will prove to be the first concrete step towards long lasting peace?
