Air pollution: Health experts have expressed serious concern as Delhi’s air quality has reached dangerous levels. He says that polluted air is not only causing respiratory diseases but also serious problems like cancer and weak immunity. According to the State of Global Air 2025 report, more than 20 lakh people died due to poisonous air in India in 2023. PM2.5 levels in South Asia are the highest in the world. Experts have called it an environmental and humanitarian crisis. Warn that lung damage is serious, so prevention is the most effective solution. Environmental experts believe that pollution in India occurs due to many reasons. In which the level of pollution due to burning fuel in homes increases by about 30 percent. Whereas this problem is further aggravated by vehicles, coal based power plants, industrial emissions and burning of agricultural residues. Experts said that in dense cities like Delhi, traffic congestion and construction dust increase the danger.

Delhi is most dangerous in India

Dr. Rakesh K., Head of the Department of Respiratory Medicine, Sleep and Interventional Pulmonology at Jaipur Golden Hospital, Rohini. Chawla said that Delhi is the most dangerous in terms of air pollution in India. He told that every winter the level of particulate matter increases about 10 times the safe limit of the World Health Organization. He said that it is a continuous attack on the lungs which weakens the immune system. Due to which chronic lung diseases increase. He said that there is a need for investment in electric public transport in Delhi and strict control on construction and burning of garbage. Nuclear medicine physician Dr. Charu Jora Goyal said that air pollution is highest with the beginning of winter and festival season. Dr. Goyal said that prolonged exposure to particulate matter, especially PM 2.5 and PM 10, increases the risk of lung cancer even in non-smokers. These pollutants can enter the bloodstream, increasing the risk of cancer of the bladder, breast and other organs.

Increased risk of cancer and respiratory diseases

Dr. Mandeep Singh Malhotra, Director of Surgical Oncology at CK Birla Hospital, said that air pollution is a threat in itself. If a patient suffering from pollution-related cancer lives in a polluted environment, the treatment becomes less effective. Pollution increases the incidence of cancer. Reduces the effectiveness of treatment. Aman Puri, founder of Steadfast Nutrition, said that ultrafine particulate pollutants get deposited in the lungs, causing inflammation and limiting oxygen supply. Dr. Aditya K., Consultant, Jaipur Golden Hospital. Chawla said that once the lung function is lost, no medicine can cure it. The only effective defense is prevention. Dr. Ashish Kumar, Senior Manager, Zion Lifesciences, emphasized that polluted air makes the existing condition of patients already undergoing treatment even worse.
