Punjab Politics: Punjab and Center have once again come face to face. CM Bhagwant Mann said that by ignoring the issue of Punjab, the Center has played with the sentiments of the people of the state.
Punjab Politics: The Center and the Punjab government keep accusing each other. The issue of stubble burning remains a hot topic between the two governments. Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday claimed that the Center has decided to postpone many issues related to the state, which mainly include sharing of river water with the neighboring state, other rights and restructuring of Punjab University. CM Mann claimed that the 32nd meeting of the Northern Zonal Council held under the chairmanship of Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Faridabad had raised issues related to Punjab. The Punjab Chief Minister said that he had said in the meeting that the Center should not play with the sentiments of Punjab while ignoring the interests of the state.
Opposed the claims of neighboring states
Reiterating the state government’s firm commitment to protect the interests of Punjab and Punjabis, the Chief Minister said that in order to protect the rights of the state and its people, it will not give anyone the right to snatch them. At the same time, CM Mann said in a press conference that when I raised the issues related to Punjab in the meeting, the Center postponed all the 11 issues related to the state. We will not allow anyone to encroach on the rights of Punjab. During this, the Chief Secretary of Punjab and other people were also present. The Chief Minister said that in the meeting he strongly opposed all the claims of the neighboring states and told the Home Minister that he has no right to snatch away the rights of Punjab.
Bent on violating the rights of Punjab
He said that the representatives of all the states presented their views, which included many states including Haryana, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh and they were bent on violating the rights of Punjab. Mann said that they are trying to put pressure on other states to snatch away our rights. Chief Minister Mann even said that he has made a mockery of Punjab by making wrong demand for share in its resources and river water.
Mann claimed that out of the total 28 agenda items, 11 were related to the states and for the first time all of them were postponed due to the hard efforts of the state government. The Chief Minister said that these issues were actually sown by his previous parties (Akali, BJP and Congress) before the people of Punjab. He also said that those who are creating ruckus regarding river water should also pay attention to the fact that real time assessment of the availability of river water should be done.
