Kolkata News: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday said that no legitimate voter in the state or the country should face harassment. He condemned the politics of ‘divide and rule’ in the society and said that it creates division among the people. Without naming the Special In-depth Review (SIR) or the National Register of Citizens (NRC), he said that it is everyone’s responsibility to protect the ideals and democratic values of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Dr. BR Ambedkar. He called upon the citizens to remain united and strengthen democracy. Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of Jagaddhatri Puja here, he also said that any attempt to snatch away democratic rights will be rejected. He said that we are all united as there should be no differences or division among the people. Remember, five fingers together form a fist that can repel any threat or challenge.
Right voters should not be harassed
He stressed the importance of standing together against attempts to divide the society. Referring to SIR and NRC issues, Banerjee said genuine voters should not be harassed. He mentioned the freedom movement when everyone united to defeat the foreign rulers. He stressed that humanity is the greatest religion and urged people to uphold human values and reject divisive forces. He said that you pluck fruits from trees and taste them and offer them to God. You don’t take thorns out of trees. While singing shlokas and bhajans during the programme, she said that I am not a scholar or a priest, but I recite Chandi Shloka every day because I know many such bhajans. However, some people make it an issue and keep fighting. Why so much negativity? Why so much toxicity? I wish him happiness and well-being.
Inauguration of underground power cable line
