This meeting is considered very important amid the ongoing tariff tension between America and China. There is a consensus on both sides that neither side wants to risk damaging the world economy in a way that could endanger their own country.
Will trade agreement be signed?
The meeting of President Trump and Xi Jinping has taken place at a time when the tariff war has been going on between the two countries for a long time. However, now there is hope that the tariff issue between China and America can be resolved. Trump said, a trade agreement can be signed today. Chinese President Xi Jinping also discussed relations with America. He told Trump, I am ready to work with you. Both our countries can help each other in success. This will lead to progress for both of us. I am ready to continue working to lay a strong foundation for China-US relations.

Jinping is a great leader – Trump
Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One en route to South Korea that he could reduce tariffs. Trump said, I hope the tariffs will come down because I believe they will help us with the fentanyl issue. Our relations with China are very good. President Xi Jinping is a great leader of a great country and I am confident that we will have long-term good relations. It is an honor to meet him. Shortly before the meeting on Thursday, Trump posted on Truth Social that the meeting would be a “G2”, recognizing the US and China’s status as the world’s largest economies.
How successful will the meeting be?
No matter how diplomatic the talks are, the possibility of a clash between Trump and Xi Jinping remains as their countries race to dominate the manufacturing sector and develop emerging technologies like artificial intelligence. Both the US and China have shown that they have the power to pressure each other, and the past year has demonstrated that temporary steps forward can be short-lived. For Trump, this pressure comes from tariffs. Talking about the present, China has faced a total of 30 percent new tariffs this year, of which 20 percent is related to its role in fentanyl production.
